Intenti lodevoli

Tramite le peculiarità della carta, la regione, per evitare lunghe code agli sportelli ed estenuanti peregrinazioni tra gli uffici pubblici, ha messo a disposizione dei cittadini una serie di servizi online. Dalle FAQ si legge che i software per utilizzare il sistema sono compatibili anche con MacOSX e con varie distribuzioni Linux tra cui Ubuntu. Miracolo! Posso utilizzare anche io il servizio.

La mia esperienza

Per quanto mi riguarda, data la mia laurea ed i corsi universitari dedicati alle tematiche della sicurezza on-line, posso assolutamente contarmi tra le fila degli utenti avanzati.

Per poter usufruire dei servizi ho acquistato sul web il seguente card-reader:

che, tra quelli compatibili, è installabile su tutte le piattaforme supportate dalla CRS.

Il primo tentativo è stato effettuato su di un MacBook con MacOSX 10.6.2 e Firefox 3.6. Ho scaricato ed installato nell’ordine:

• i driver per lo smart-card reader,
• il Software CRS: contiene le librerie per accedere al certificato presente sulla smart card attraverso il card-reader (ho dovuto però installare manualmente la libreria in Firefox dato che l’oggetto pkcs11 non è più accessibile via javascript)
• il CRS Manager: software per la firma digitale dei documenti

Per verificare il buon esito dell’installazione ho provato a firmare e successivamente verificare un documento tramite l’apposita applicazione. Al primo accesso al certificato sulla smart card mi è stato richiesto il PIN

e quale certificato usare

I risultati? Altalenanti. L’applicazione web per gestire i dati sanitari etc. sembrava funzionare, nonostante qualche inconveniente di tanto in tanto.

L’accesso ai servizi del comune di Milano invece (cosa che mi interessava di più), restituiva un laconico messaggio di errore.

Ho ripetuto l’installazione dei vari software su una macchina virtuale con Windows XP e IE8. L’istallazione per i sistemi di Cupertino risulta Ieggermente più semplice e contiene anche una (complessa) procedura per testare la correttezza dell’installazione. Ma, anche in questo caso, non ho avuto successo con i servizi del comune.

Amare conclusioni

Questo sistema di identificazione via CRS mi sembra l’ennesima cosa fatta all’italiana:

• Bassa fruibilità per l’utente medio: Acquistare un dispositivo non propio comune, installare driver e software, eseguire una complicata serie di procedure per installare le librerie per il token fisico PKCS #11 …
• Disomogeneità nei vari servizi offerti e qualità generale percepita molto bassa.

Insomma credo sia ancora acerbo e lontano da un funzionamento accettabile.

Qualche altro cittadino lombardo ha provato ad utilizzare questi servizi? Ci è riuscito? Ha voglia di condividere la sua esperienza?

The add-on provides a little save icon (near the bookmark star), allowing you to submit a web-page Instapaper.com for later reading.

Moreover you will be able to interact with the service via the new Instasaver menu entries in the Firefox tools menu and via the following keyboard shortcuts:

• SHIFT + ALT + I, for submittng content to Instapaper.com
• SHIFT + ALT + R, to reflow webpage content
• SHIFT + ALT + G, to visit Instapaper.com website

Flashback

It all started between the 1999 and the 2000.  I registered rolandfg.net domain and I got a hosting powered by PHP and MySQL. Later on I put together a very simple system to publish new apps, allowing the visitors to leave feedback via comments (yes it was a very simple CMS).

The site went into several refreshes. The oldest screen-shots I have retrieved from the Wayback machine are dated between the 2003 and the 2004. Some images are missing so the layout results a little bit screwed up. Anyway the main idea is still there.

Later on the bunch of scripts had been replaced by a real CMS and I started writing some more personal posts following the “write a blog” trend. A screen-shot of the 2007 follows.

Oldware

Why I started all that? I felt the need to distribute on the web some software utilities I had developed.

Show/Hide, the first one, was one on the most problematic. The app used the trick of  Control Panel tranformation to make the folder’s content inaccessible from the Windows Explorer without a password. The protection was really weak: a power user was able to easily break into the folder via command line or third party file manager (a la Total Commander). Anyway the utility got lots of downloads and was published in an Italian software magazine CD. So for several years I had been receiving funny/desperate emails asking for help (unlock folders after software uninstall, recover lost passwords, etc.).

My master-piece was (a couple of years later) an application for the Pocket PC platform: Pocket CodFis. It was my first approach to create software for mobile devices. I used the .NET Compact framework and the SQLite DB engine. Pocket CodFis was able to calculate a tax code code, called Codice Fiscale, used in Italy to uniquely identify a person. This application had more than 1000 downloads on the first couple of days after being linked on PocketPC italia.

Among others it’s worth to mention:

DoPlayIt, an utility that fired an sound at predefined intervals. This software was very simple but, since I received feedback from a blind person that had been using it and that gave me good feedback on how to enhance it for screen reader, I’m quite proud of it.

Easy Rename, a very handy file re-namer, published along with an Italian magazine like Show/Hide.

At present I have a couple of projects that sooner or later I would like to share and even if Twitter and Facebook are trendier than an ‘old’ blog I decided to regain possession of rolandfg.net. We’ll see…
